We're Alive!

After being buried by snow for so long, we are back to business as usual. Back to school, back to work, back to Pheebs being crated for a good portion of the day.

It's been a busy week and the coming week seems pretty busy as well. I'll try to update as much as I can, or least when something cool happens.

:)

Snowtorious B.I.G

Snowmaggeddon.

SnOMG.

This winter storm has had a lot of names. The most fitting is Snowtorious B.I.G. We got about 24-30 inches of snow dumped on us this past weekend. I've never seen so much snow! They are calling for even more tonight (10-20 inches!) and I'm guessing there is no hope of me going to school this week. Someone sent pictures of my school--and you couldn't even get in the parking lot. Oh MAN I want to go West Virginia and settle in with Joy, but I can't until I know that school is officially canceled!

Here's some fun pics from the storm/clean-up:

Here we all are, digging out all the cars:

Here's Alli digging out one of the cars.

Still digging!

Oh boy. Time to start digging out my car, Scarlet.

We found one!

Yeah, yeah, there's a bunch of snow... but check out the paint job on our diagonal neighbors' house. WOW!!! The snow really brought out the pink. Just kidding. Even nighttime brings out the pink.

Snow on the recycling bin-- man, that's a lot.

Keeping the cokes cool...

Lou kickin' back, enjoying a coke after digging out a couple of cars.
Bunny rabbit likes to jump up onto the snow.

And put her face in the snow...

Then she likes to perform in "white face".

Here's a little video. Sorry about my finger, I'm trying to get used to filming on my ipod. Also, yes, that is the Glee soundtrack you are hearing. Kate's a Snow Digger.

Interesting, Man(ning)

So, my mom was right. The Saints won. It was a great game. I would have liked a score that was close, but I'll deal. It was a QUICK game!!

This disappointed me a little, but keep reading:

Peyton Manning storms off Super Bowl field. Is he a poor sport?
By Chris Chase

Peyton Manning(notes) didn't shake hands with New Orleans Saints players after his Indianapolis Colts lost 31-17 in Super Bowl XLIV. Apparently some think this is a sign of poor sportsmanship from the NFL's greatest player. It's not.
Walking off the field without congratulating Drew Brees(notes) may go against our misguided notion of what sportsmanship should be, but it wasn't at all disrespectful or bitter. It shows how much Peyton Manning wanted to win the game. And who can argue about that?

Being a good sportsman is playing fair, respecting the game and giving credit after to an opponent. Manning did all those things Sunday. In his post-game press conference he said of his quick exit:
"I certainly know how it was three years ago when we won. There's not much consolation for the guys who didn't win. There's the stage being set up and the celebration. It's time for the Saints to celebrate. It's their field."
That's probably a tad disingenuous, but no more than it would have been if Peyton had walked over to congratulate Drew Brees.
For the record, Peyton did call Brees later in the night. Said the Saints quarterback: "Peyton's a class guy." If the man who was supposedly snubbed thinks so, that's enough for me.

I really want to believe you, Peyton. I really want to believe you.

Yes, I will eventually blog about the snow

YES. Videos, pictures, the whole nine yards. Coming.

But here's an update:

Fairfax County Public Schools are were closed today (Monday) and are now closed Tuesday and Wednesday of this week... partly to continue cleaning up from the 24+ inches that just fell on us this past weekend, but also to go ahead and cover the bases for the 10-20 inches scheduled to come Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday night.

So, I've got some time...

Also, I have to dig Phebe out first. I know she's in the yard somewhere...

Man babies!

This should TOTALLY freak me out. And it does... but I'm also amused by it...

Who buys unnecessary things?

I bought this on ebay.

Updates to come...

Reasons Why He's the Man(ning) for Me

Seriously, I love Peyton Manning. Love Him!! He's an amazing athlete, he's humble, he's grounded, he loves his brother the appropriate amount and he's AWESOME on Saturday Night Live.

On Sunday, I will be cheering for the Saints to win, but I still want Peyton to be happy with the game he's played.
Dashing, debonnaire, and definitely married...

One of the best Peyton Manning skits...

THE BEST PEYTON MANNING SKIT!!! The quality is poor, but I guarantee you will love him a little bit more after this...

Go Peyton! You'll always be my favorite football man(ning)

Hear Ye, Hear Ye- The Super Bowl has been called.

She's done it again. My mom has made her
Official Super Bowl Proclamation.
It's a highly scientific process. She's done it for at least the last 2 super bowls that I remember. (And to give her credit--she's been right 50% of the time.)
  • Example: Super Bowl XLII-- It was the Giants vs. the Patriots. My mom called me and said, "I've decided to go for the Giants because they are huge, huge beings who will step on the tiny little patriots. Patriots have small weapons, like tiny muskets and those won't even touch the Giants. So I'm going with the Giants." Score: Giants 17, Patriots 14. Well done, Mom.
  • Second Example: Super Bowl XLIII-- It was the Steelers vs. the Cardinals. She called me with her annual proclamation and said, "Ok, so I'm thinking it will be the Cardinals because they can peck out the eyes of the slow-moving guys who work on assembly lines. And the birds can just fly out of the way of the men." Score: Steelers 27, Cardinals 23. Well, you can't win them all.
So, here we are, Super Bowl XLIV-- It's the Colts vs. the Saints. And today I got the call.
"So, I think it's going to be the Saints because they have wings and they have God on their side. Plus, colts aren't even full-sized horses yet, they're like, teenagers. I mean, four legs do not beat a pair of wings."
She also made this point: "New Orleans is a city that needs a win..."
Alright, Alright, Sorry Peyton, my love, I will cheer for the Saints.
There you have it. Will she be correct? We'll have to see on Sunday.
